KXSP (590 AM, Omaha) is poised to return to the airwaves. Omaha-based Walnut Media has reached an agreement with SummitMedia to buy the station that was signed off by Summit earlier this year. Walnut has filed an asset purchase agreement with the FCC that includes the station license, two transmitters and spare parts for $40,000.
Walnut will relocate KXSP’s transmission operations to a site to be determined, as Summit recently sold the land from which the station transmitted for roughly 90 years. With Walnut’s other holdings in the Omaha/Fremont area, the FCC filing includes a waiver request should the commission flag any concerns about the company owning five AM stations. The waiver request states “Walnut is prepared to restore service on KXSP shortly after the transaction is consummated and to use its knowledge of the market to bolster AM service.”
