Emergency Alerts

Local broadcasters serve as the backbone of the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS) by transmitting alerts to ensure they reach the widest possible audience. Local broadcasters also support Nebraska’s AMBER Alert and Endangered Missing Advisory (EMA) programs in cooperation with the Nebraska State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies.   Local broadcasters’ infrastructure and reach make them crucial for delivering life-saving information to the public, even when other communication platforms may be unavailable.

Columbia Journalism Review highlighted that local newsrooms, though smaller than national counterparts, often dedicate more resources to verifying facts and maintaining journalistic integrity.
