Essential Functions

The News Reporter and Team Leader is primarily responsible for producing in-depth radio news features and multi-media/multi-platform journalism for KVNO. The Reporter prepares cogent news stories for broadcast on KVNO as well as regional and national broadcast for radio outlets and all related KVNO websites. They will anchor several newscasts each weekday, including 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and others to be determined. The Reporter supervises part-time correspondents and student interns, helping them develop and hone their reporting and presentation skills. This person must be able to produce high quality photographs to supplement his/her reporting and be technically skilled and proficient in the use of digital audio editing software. The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relay important and compelling stories by incorporating such elements as natural sound and voice actualities into their reports. This position requires flexible scheduling with some weekend working hours. Individual must have access to their own personal transportation.

Additional Duties

Explore social, political, economic and ecological issues of interest to Omaha Nebraska and Eastern Iowa listeners. Live interactions with morning announcer. Work with other affiliated news organizations such as NET, Harvest Public Media and Iowa Public Radio to share stories as appropriate. Maintain “Issues and Programs” list for FCC public file. Production work to support other aspects of station operation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Two (2) years public radio reporting
Valid Driver’s License
Will consider a combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Journalism with two (2) years public radio news manager experience. Will consider a combination of education and work experience.

Salary
